Each week, St. Benedict Parish offers the Mass in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite (that is, the Latin Mass using the 1962 Roman Missal) on Sundays at 1:00pm. Our worship space is aptly designed for the fullness of this expression of the rite, complete with a free-standing altar which allows for ‘ad orientem’ posture, and a beautiful wooden rail for distribution of Holy Communion, hand made and installed by parishioners.
All practicing Catholics are joyfully welcome to worship Our Lord Jesus in this traditional form of the Holy Mass where the normative way of receiving Holy Communion is kneeling and directly into the mouth. When the faithful attend this Mass, the senses are awakened by an interior participation, often with incense, bells, silence, mystery and sung Gregorian chant. Booklets and handouts are provided for congregational use.
Please note: In keeping with the provisions of the apostolic letter issued by Pope Francis on July 16, 2021, Traditionis custodes, "On the Use of the Roman Liturgy Prior to the Reform of 1970," St. Benedict has been permitted to continue to regularly offer the Latin Mass for the good of the faithful in the Diocese of Duluth.
